For over three decades, the Ethiopian Yellow Pages has been more than a business directory. It is a community institution – a trusted, beloved resource that has stood at the heart of Ethiopian life in the Washington Metropolitan area since 1991.
Known and cherished as "Mama Tutu's Directory," our publication first came to life in 1993 with a simple but powerful mission: to connect Ethiopian community members with the businesses and services they need, in a language and culture they recognize as their own.
That mission has never changed. And neither has our commitment to you.
1991 – The Beginning
The Ethiopian Yellow Pages was founded with a vision to serve the rapidly growing Ethiopian diaspora community in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. From day one, we understood that community connection is everything.
1993 – First Publication
Our first print edition of "Mama Tutu's Directory" hit the hands of Ethiopian community members across the DMV – and was immediately embraced as an indispensable community resource. Businesses and households alike found a home in its pages.
2007 – Honored by Washington DC Council
On September 15, 2007, in recognition of the Ethiopian Yellow Pages' hard work, commitment, and unparalleled continuous service of excellence, the Washington DC Council passed a formal resolution declaring September 15, 2007 as "Ethiopian Yellow Pages Day" in the District of Columbia.
This honor remains one of our proudest achievements – a testament to the trust and impact we have built within this community over the years.
2011 – Featured on the Front Page of The Washington Post
On June 9, 2011, The Washington Post featured the Ethiopian Yellow Pages on the front page of its Style section under the headline:
"Ethiopian Yellow Pages: Life, by the book"
The Washington Post described our work as an "Immigrant's Directory [that] is an all-purpose tool for cultural acclimation" – praising our closeness to and commitment to the ever-growing Ethiopian community we have served for decades.
Today – A Worldwide Digital Directory
What began as a printed telephone directory has grown into a globally accessible online platform. Today, www.ethiopianyellowpages.com connects Ethiopian community members and businesses across the Washington DC Metro area, throughout the United States, and around the world.
Our digital directory continues to grow – serving thousands of users who rely on us daily to find trusted Ethiopian businesses and services.
